Anger In This Land

You’ve sworn to serve but we’ve got serious doubts

‘Cause why are so many still going without

You gave too many handouts to all these other countries

While we’ve still got people goin’ hungry and out on the street

First let’s take care of our very own right here at home

‘Stead of you tryin’ to solve the whole world’s problems from up on your throne

When your power and prestige are placed above and beyond all else

It’s the real issues at hand that end up dead on the shelf

Meanwhile what do we get in return for all we’ve given away

They just hate us even more and then spit in our face

There’s anger in this land

Yeah there’s anger in this land

It ain’t hard to understand

Why there’s anger in this land

How can a family save or even make it today

When they’re barely scrapin’ by on the goin’ wage

Regardless of working conditions or the quality of their lives

To turn the biggest profit is the only bottom line

People have to work more than ever now just to survive

Less time for their families and the good things in life

Only to abandon their own dreams for what makes the biggest buck

Just doin’ what’s expected, goin’ nowhere, feelin’ stuck

More and more thinkin’ that life’s just passing ‘em by

Many of our youth in trouble left at home unsupervised

While everyday another small business goes belly up

That couldn’t compete with the corporation where more’s never enough

There’s anger in this land

Yeah there’s anger in this land

It ain’t hard to understand

That there’s anger in this land

When our big chief manages to get himself in a mess of his own design

He attracts more attention than ever and scores the biggest headlines

He just got carried away with his own power a bit more than he should

Though he’ll stay right where he is long as the economy’s good

Lots of people outraged but this wouldn’t be the first time

It’s what we’ve come to expect from the political kind

But there’s far too much pride there to ever admit to a mistake

That’s why it looks so easy as they lie right to your face

Why do we go on blindly feeding such a blatantly corrupt machine

That’s fueled by manipulation, deception and greed

I know you’re with what I’m talkin about

Its been building up so long

Let’s blow the lid off and let it all out

Bring back the power where it belongs

So we can’t count on our leaders to ever tell us the truth

Since our country’s run primarily by special interest groups

They fund the big campaign to put their man at the top

Then pull the strings while he just talks the talk

Sure to spin quite the tale to get your money and sway your vote

Then not far down the road you find you’re on the raw end of the joke

The least of their concerns are the needs of the common man

To generate more wealth and power remains their only plan

But overtime they’ve created a monster that we’re unduly required to feed

And it’s so bogged down, inept and bloated it’s long been obsolete

 There’s anger in this land

Yeh there’s anger in this land

It’s not hard to understand

How there’s anger in this land

We’ve learned from experience to question authority

And the repression right here in the land of the free

Gone are the days of my country no matter right or wrong

And our willingness to swallow their lies and just go along

Yet some don’t seem that concerned about our current state

As long as they’re making good money, livin’ large and gettin’ laid

Though with life's pressures mounting not quite as clever with how to best cope

So they go for the latest diversion along side old standbys booze and dope

But it’s more about denial of years of pent up pain and rage

‘Til suddenly it all comes bursting out in the worst possible ways

Come on people of this great land

Its time we make a stand

Are we gonna be why things just stay the same

Or the instruments of change

Our forefathers were radicals, visionaries and men with foresight

Who rebelled against over taxation and unequal rights

If you look around and see what’s really happening today

The past resembles the present in an all too similar way

No doubt they’ve taken far more than their fair share of our pay

Just where all the money goes we really don’t have a say

Why pour the lion’s share into what’s already the mightiest war machine

Instead how ‘bout using our dollars for helping our own in need

It’s self evident the principals this country’s founded on were lost sight of long ago

Cast aside by corporate power and a government that’s out of our control

 There’s anger in this land

Yeh there’s anger in this land

In many a woman, child and man

There’s anger in this land

How can our reps act as our voice when they can’t be bothered to hear

Their choices are based solely on what will best further their career

Even if yours is a matter of great concern they're not so eager to know

While their doors and pockets are always open to those willing to buy their soul

Your thoughts, opinions, and feelings don’t really matter in the least

After all you’re but a tiny microchip in the mega infrastructure of the beast

While those who wear a badge aren’t here merely to serve and to protect

When it’s still business as usual to intimidate, bully, control, and suppress

As the walls grow taller while you get smaller in the overall scheme of things

Their grip gets tighter as your weight gets lighter in the say of what song we sing

Now there’re more laws, rules, and regulations being put into effect each day

While we just stand by and watch as our rights and our freedoms are eroding away
