Marching Off to War No More

 

We don’t believe in a single word that you say

When you couldn’t care any less about us anyway

We’re not willing to put ourselves out on the line

When you don’t have an ounce of regard for humankind

Our lives are too precious to be placed into your greedy hands

Or to be an expendable resource used to carry out your devious plans

We’re not about to sign up to become just another one of your slaves

Only to die, be forgotten and just fade away

 

We ain’t marchin’ off to war no more

It’s for you and I to decide

Are we gonna buy into the lie

It’s time we opened our eyes

To the truth that can’t be denied

 

You try to come off as being so noble and so dignified

But we can’t help from seeing through your amateur disguise

You tried in vain to pull the wool over all of our eyes

With your smoke screen tactics and your thinly veiled lies

Using stale garbled rhetoric and your phony prestigious act

Your twisted patriotic posturing and more fear mongering rap

And your attempt to mislead by confusing our attacker with those we’re to attack

But were not to be fooled cause we happen to know the cold hard facts

 As your glossy fascade begins to peel and then swiftly fade

And this false image you portray has fractured and is ready to cave way

More and more are sure to recognize this as a pitiful charade

While even those foolish enough to believe you’re all too willing to betray

We’re not gonna go over there and die

When there ain’t no reason why

 

Now that we’ve seen the signs

Of all that’s being brought to light

Together in our hearts and minds

Let’s stand for what we know is right

 

You expect us to be willing to pay the ultimate price

While you’d surely be the last one to go over there to fight

You present it as being such an important just and worthy cause

That’s in service to our great country and for the good of all

But it’s got nothin’ to do with preserving our national security

Or protecting our precious freedom and hard won liberty

It’s all about vendettas, hidden agendas, and not to mention personal gain

For us it’s a matter of life or death while to you it’s just another power game

So go bully and flex your muscles on those who’re weaker using someone else

‘Cause we’re not about to go off, leave our families, and sacrifice ourselves

For something we don’t believe in and cannot stand behind

So don’t even bother using any of your old standard worn out lines

Like this is your chance to do your duty ain’t about to work this time

As we refuse to take part in yet another case of the blind following the blind

 

So take a word from the wise

There’s no room here to compromise

For your own sake, your family and friends

On this your whole future depends

 

You’re so eager to roll the dice with and jeopardize other people’s lives

While the whole rest of the world can only view it as a blatant crime

When your thousands of miles from the action it’s easy to feel no pain

But if it were your own blood being spilled over there that would no doubt change    

Your hope is that this will greatly increase your stature, influence, and fame

Still when it’s all been said and done you’ll be wearing the long face of shame

Yet you think that you’ll be remembered as a hero with a powerful legacy

Though in hindsight you’ll be best known as being the worst fool in our history

For the countless lives forever changed or wasted so unnecessarily

And all the innocent ones you subjected to needless suffering and cruelty

So what amounts to your crimes against humanity we get to pay the price

As our nation plunges deeper and deeper into debt as each wasteful day goes by

 

It’s time for you and I to arise

And not let 'em take hold of your mind

They got the talk to reel you in

But don’t you allow them win

 

You’ve abused your power and position without a conscience or even a care

After all you’re only here to serve interests of self and those who put you there

Pretending as though you’re above it all holed up in your ivory tower

While so many precious lives could be saved if you were to be removed from power

As your loyal subjects we’re supposed to support you no matter wrong or right

But in your mind that gives you the license to pour more fire on the fight

You won’t be able to guilt us into feeling we’re not doing all we can

Or ever dupe us into thinking this is how you prove yourself a man

You think you’ll just go unhindered in the achieving of your selfish ends

              Though we’ve lost respect all around the world, from our allies and so called friends

                  You’re void of any credibility you might have once had in your own citizen’s eyes   

Now that you've been exposed it’s finally time that you got cut down to size

As your once glorious campaign has turned into a sham for all to see

And your brilliant patriotic policies have resulted in this horrible tragedy

 

It’s you that must seize the day

And not give your power away

So don’t you sign on that line

They’ll numb your conscience and make you blind

 

In the minds in your own countrymen, you’ve acted far beyond irresponsibly

‘Cause this terrible mess you got us in with no end in sight looks like pure insanity

You’re a glaring disgrace to your country with not a single bit of class

With not even a clue as to how much you come off looking like an ass

You promised to lead us down the primrose path of pride, honor, and recognition

But yours is one that can only lead to suffering, death, and destruction

You actually thought that you could win us over with your obnoxious flag waving crap

Since we dare to think for ourselves you couldn’t lure us to your slimy sinister trap

 Still of these things and more you can so conveniently deny

Like how you forgot your own people in your quest for being glorified

You must want to see how much of a shadow on this world one man can cast

All too soon you’ll be but an unpleasant memory from our dark and regretful past

Ain't it true how everyone reaps what they sows as the wise all say

And the day will come when all the wrongs you’ve done come back to you in spades

 

Now that we’ve realized

 The value of our own lives

It’s this we’ve come to decide

We’re not gonna buy into the lie

 

We’ll have to pass on this golden opportunity to see the world, go to school and get ahead

‘Cause more than likely we come back either damaged, crippled, or just plain dead

Now we won’t have a hand in all this pointless killing and senseless bloodshed

And you won’t be gladly sending us to this hellish place of pain, misery, and dread

No apologies for not living up to your trusty motto of ‘be all that you can be’

For that’s neither walkin’ the righteous path or following one’s true destiny

But to defend our own soil and its people if ever comes the time

With not a moment to lose we’d be heading straight for the front lines

    It makes no sense for our faces to end up on some list or a bulletin board or wall

So let’s rally together to help put an end to this madness and aid in your downfall

For those of us who hold this country dear and still have some sense of humanity

To openly defy you is not only a matter of duty but our moral responsibility

 With the power of our decision and the strength of our resolve let’s boldly put out the call

We’re not gonna go over there and die for nothin’ at all
