Song of Solidarity

 

Drivin’ down the crowded highway starin’ into the haze

Wonderin’ why the fuel still burns when we know there’s a better way

How are we to be free to live if we can’t fully breathe the air

Lookin’ at where the priorities lie it’s enough to give you a scare

 

People can't walk the streets at night

Cause it just might take their life

Rape and violence threatening you

Then all they tell you is there’s not much they can do

 

If ever a leader arises who dares to speak the truth

Will he last long enough to bring the changes we’ve needed through

So we’re supposed to settle for those pretending to be our voice

With all it takes to get themselves there it’s no wonder we have no real choice

 

You can hardly make a move

Without the feelin’ someone’s watchin’ you

After all who’s really in control

How come we’re always the last to know

Must we be in fear of each other is this any way to live our lives

So many caught up in the frantic race to survive and to achieve

It’s by design we don’t have time to question or challenge authority

 

Millions glued to the flat screen eye

While minds and hearts become anesthesized

Their image just keeps building the wall

‘Til you can’t feel what' real at all

Power is the name of the game as they take as much as they can

Treating people as if they were objects and exploiting our sacred lands

Politicians claim they’re here to serve yet turn a deaf ear to the people’s cries

Long as you keep on buyin’ they’ll continue to tell you lies

 

Now who’s been left out in the cold

The children, the hungry, the sick, and the old

Instead look what you’re payin’ for

Another wrong and drawn out war
