Wild and Free

 

It’s hard to be stuck here sitting all day

When we’re not interested in a thing that you say

So tired of hearing just do as you’re told

As if we didn’t have minds of our own

Of course you know better from more years gone by

But we’ve learned more from things you’d never try

We gotta live our own lives

 

Instead you teach us only what you’re required to

Yet how ‘bout something we could actually use

You strive to instill the proper things to do

But when it comes to real life you haven’t a clue

We’re supposed to respect you ‘cause you’re the authority

Though you’re the perfect example of what we wouldn’t want to be

We gotta follow our own dreams

You look at us as just being more of the same

The most you’ll know of me is maybe my name

You couldn’t understand what its like to grow up today

When you don’t even see me as a person anyway

Your actions toward us are all so contrived

 That we’re quick to dismiss like the rest of your lies

We gotta let our flag fly high

 

Still you just pile on even more for us to take home

Making sure we have no life of our own

Let’s face it you’re only here to get paid

While its our own space you have to invade

You add more rules to try and keep us in line

That by being ourselves we can only defy

We live for the moment all the time

We’re not here to try and fit into someone else’s scene

We gotta follow our own path and pursue all of our dreams

To create our own vision of who we are to be

And expand our horizons further than the eye can see

 

You think you’re empowered by putting us down

If you only knew how much you look like a clown

You try to shame me into hating myself

By criticizing me in front of everyone else

But I’ve got enough wisdom to see right through your game

It’s all about how much your ego can gain

The more you hold on the more the pain

 

Yet to make it hard you’ll go out of your way

Just part of the same drill we do everyday

Every chance you get you’re there on my case

 For once I’d like to rub it right back in your face

You always need someone to answer to you

Though for us we've found what’s more important to do

Unto our own selves we must be true
